Story ideas are all around us. Inspiration can be found in our daily experiences, people we meet on the street and other stories too.
So how do we take those ideas and put them together into a story?

A blank page is not an easy way to start a story. In Dinosaur Twins Write a Story, the dinosaurs are faced with that problem until grandma gives them three words of advice: Subject, Setting, Situation.
Start with a character - your subject (maybe one of those interesting people you ran into on the street).
Pick a setting - where the story takes place (an imaginary one or maybe one you have visited before)
Finally, a situation - what is happening in the story - a problem to solve, something to discover...
Now that you have the base of the story you can elaborate with more details.

Dinosaur Twins Write a Story helps guide children into creating a story of their own.
This book is available exclusively from the quiteacharacter bookstore.
To encourage further storytelling skill building it is important to offer writing prompts to kids on a regular basis. This can help their imagination grow, provide them a foundation for a story and get them excited about creating stories!
Postcard Prompts offer a writing prompt for kids in the mailbox on a regular basis (you can pick from specific subscriptions). Each post card offers an idea to improve storytelling skills, and a fun lesson to inspire a story.
“Your job is to collect good ideas. The more good ideas you collect, the more you can choose from to be influenced by.” -Austin Kleon
