Summer holidays can mean big, travel vacations or small, little outings. No matter if they are big or small, a great book is always worth packing!
Before you travel

Sometimes books can be read ahead of time to help prepare kids for a trip. Anxious Alligator is going on a trip around the world with his family which has brought up a lot of emotions. Throughout the book, and the trip, the alligator works through the emotions which can also inspire kids to do the same thing.

Some books can help you decide where to travel! The Adventures of Rynnie Roo books by Jean Johnson allow you to roam the States and Mexico to learn about the place, the animals that live there, and even new vocabulary words.
Check out the Kangaroo Tale: Rynnie Roo and Tater Too, Arkansas - a read aloud story featured in the Kindness Kangaroo Library.
While you travel
Books are great to keep kids busy while travelling, especially those with activities in them. Try to find books that mirror your travel - riding on a plane or train, visiting museums, big city, country life - a story can be great entertainment, but it can also help connect the kids to the world around them.

Adventures With My White Cane: The Field Trip takes place in a children's museum where the characters get lost and have to journey back to the start!
Check out the read aloud of this book in the Kindness Kangaroo Library.
Before you head home
Check out the books in souvenir shops to find something about your travel to bring home with you to read later and recollect the fun. OR, work together as a family to create a fun vacation story inspired from personal experience!

What are some of your favourite books to travel with?
Of course, the good thing about books is that you don't have to go anywhere physically but you can still travel just by opening the book.
