Reaching for the Stars

"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."

Encouraging kids to follow their dreams is very important - even if their dream seems out of reach. The journey to get to their dream will help them learn and grow and become who they are meant to be.

In Manny's Flight (written by Sandra Wilson and illustrated by Jayson Tench), the little gnome struggles to walk making others think he wouldn't be able to reach his big dream. But Manny follows his dream right into space!

Another book with a dream of space is Maya Wants To Be an Astronaut, written by Sakshi Sharma and illustrated by Supriya Soni. In this story Maya shows an interest in space so her family and her teacher feed her facts to encourage her interest. When Maya talks about being an astronaut, no one tells her it is too difficult or that there is no point in trying, they encourage her and celebrate the idea.

Maybe Maya will be an astronaut, and maybe she will decide to be something else. What she knows is that she has support to learn and grow and be the best Maya she can be.

My son wanted to grow up to be a dungeon master. So he read fantasy novels, studied mythology, warfare and more. Today he writes and publishes dungeons and dragons adventures and is indeed a professional dungeon master!

It's not our place to forge a path for children, we are to encourage and help them learn and grow along the path they choose for themselves.

"Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each."  ~Plato
