No matter where you live you will experience some major weather situations. You might get caught in a sudden thunderstorm, snowed in after a blizzard, or blown off your feet by strong winds.

Although weather can cause some problems for us in the real world it can add some interesting twists to a fictional world. Remember that tornado in Kansas?
Weather can add an obstacle to a story, something the characters have to struggle through, problem-solve, or alter their plans for.
In Optimistic Octopus, one of the Emotional Animal Alphabet books, a rain storm, and then snow threatened to ruin the planned picnic - luckily the octopus was able to see the fun side of the situation.
In Once Upon a Winter's Day: storytelling lessons with a wintry theme there is a lesson that encourages the reader to imagine a snowman in a place he shouldn't be, and the weather getting the better of him - what would he do?

Sometimes, the concept of weather can be the whole story! In Super Kids vs the Climate Monster, the Super Kids face a monster that is causing terrible things to happen with the weather. The Kids organize a club to help teach people about the importance of caring for the planet and preventing climate change. This book was written and illustrated with the help of a grade 5-6 class.
this book is available through the quiteacharacter bookstore.
Check out how author Kellyn Hough uses weather in her story The Hedgehog and the Fog when you listen to the Storytime Session in the Kindness Kangaroo Library.

Maybe you could write a story about a weather event that you experienced. I remember as a child viewing the aftermath of a tornado. Although the part of town where I lived was unmarked by the event, as we travelled through town we could see the damage and the loss. There is one image in particular that stays in my head. That of a mother and a young girl, walking down the street in their pajamas, the little one holding onto her teddy - possibly the only thing she had left - certainly a sad story but one that could be written to show endurance, the strength to overcome.
